Are home bakeries safe? What about allergens?

Home bakeries sell under their state's cottage food law, which allows certain low-risk foods made in a home kitchen. Always ask the baker about ingredients and allergens before you order; home kitchens usually handle nuts, wheat, dairy and eggs together.
